Purpose & Values
St Martin’s Centre Purpose
“To enrich the lives of older people in SE Cambridge by providing an independent high quality Day Facility in a Christian environment.”
St Martin’s Centre Values
We value:
1. RESPECT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL. We see people as individuals, created by God, each with their special contribution to make. We believe everybody should be treated fairly, and we believe people should have respect for others.
2. CREATIVITY. We believe that every individual has unique creative gifts, because we are all made in the image of God. We believe that these gifts should be stimulated through activity and involvement.
3. PROVIDING A NEEDED SERVICE. Many older people live alone and often feel like prisoners, trapped between four walls. Therefore, we believe a visit to the Centre should be something that users look forward to, that gives them a break, proves an enjoyable day out, and enhances their quality of life.
4. PERSONAL INDEPENDENCE. We believe in helping users to remain independent, and to stay in their own homes for as long as possible, or for as long as they wish.
5. COMMUNITY. We see older people being increasingly marginalised by society. We believe in helping and encouraging users to feel part of a community.
6. INTEGRITY. We believe in speaking the truth in love and being honest in our dealings.
7. ORGANISATIONAL INDEPENDENCE. Although we liaise closely with Social Services and the health care agencies, we believe that remaining independent (as part of St Martin’s Church) enables us to offer a unique service in a Christian environment.
