Audrey Fovargue is a regular Monday afternoon volunteer. Audrey's husband, Graham, used to enjoy coming to the Centre every Tuesday and Thursday. After his death in May 2001, Audrey wished to give something back to the Centre, and, knowing our continual search for volunteers, made herself available on Monday afternoons.. She helps with teas and coffees and then might lead a quiz or other group. She maintains she gets a lot of satisfaction through her voluntary work.

Anja Pott was with us from October 2000 to June 2001. Anja (pronounced An-ya) was a student at Anglia Polytechnic University, studying European Business, and was from Munich in Germany. She was thankful for the opportunity to study internationally, and wanted to give something back to the community. A German 87 year old friend had given her a very positive experience of older people, and she very much wanted to encourage a section of society who have given much of themselves to the community. She also maintained that she learnt a lot from the experience of older people – the importance of strength of character, for example. Anja began as a general helper for two hours on a Friday afternoon; serving tea, leading quizzes, organising tabletop games, and chatting to and befriending folks. With a change in timetable after Christmas, and a growth in confidence from being at the Centre for several weeks, Anja then encouraged a small group of 3 or 4 people to bake on Thursday mornings. The cakes and cookies that were made were then devoured with afternoon tea.
